Setting the Foundation for Las Vegas SkyVue

It has been a while since I heard anything about SkyVue, the 500 foot tall observation wheel that is being built along side the Las Vegas Strip.  The project was approved by the City about a year ago, and things have been steadily developing since then.

As major proof of that, SkyVue just recently started to have its foundation poured.  Those doubting the project would happen might be believers at this point, and an opening date for the attraction has been set at July 4th, 2013.

Located across the street from the Mandalay Bay resort, SkyVue will be the third tallest wheel in the world when it opens.  It'll "forever change the skyline of Las Vegas," shining in the night, visible for miles.

And they're not kidding with that last park, the SkyVue will be about as visible as it gets.  Both sides of the wheel will have 50,000 square feet of LED signage, with another 18,000 square feet of LEDs at the base building.  Naturally, this is being promoted as a great opportunity for sponsors to step up and get their name and logo out there.

The building that is located under the observation wheel will have both an expansive retail section and a convention area as well.   When originally proposed, the development was said to include some amusement rides but they seem to have gone away for now.  Still, in some images on SkyVue's website a small blob that resembles a coaster can be seen next to the wheel's building.

Some other capabilities of the wheel revolve around special events, pun intended.  A 4th of July celebration could be quite impressive using those LED displays combined with fireworks, and we can only imagine New Year's Eve.

Sounds like they're looking for one main sponsor to name the wheel.  Perhaps I should start a collection for it to be named the NewsPlusNotes SkyVue Las Vegas?  I kid.
